Safe Removal. Right Method. Prevention.

Why Leave a Stinging Insect Nest to a Professional

Nests Are Defended, and Some Are Hidden: Wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets defend their nests, and disturbing one is how people get stung. They build under eaves, inside wall voids, in the ground, and around decks and porches, and nests in a wall void or the ground are hard to reach safely. Please do not knock a nest down, block the opening, or spray it yourself. Our technicians have the protective gear and training to do it safely.
Different Insects, Different Nests, One Call: We remove wasp, hornet, and yellow jacket nests across Canton, Massillon, and Alliance, and deal with carpenter bees, which nest in wood such as decks, trim, and fascia. Not sure what you have? Our post on telling bees, wasps, and hornets apart helps, and you can always call and describe what you see. Our stinging insect control page gives the overview of everything we handle.
Removal, Then Prevention: After the nest is gone, we apply preventive treatments where stinging insects like to nest, such as eaves, decks, porches, and wall voids, so they do not simply rebuild. Bees and wasps are also covered year-round on State Shield Essential, and if pests come back between treatments, so do we — at no cost.

Spring Starts. Late Summer Peaks.

Wasp, Hornet, and Yellow Jacket Season in Northeast Ohio

Spring: Nests Are Started: Wasps begin building in spring, and the nest is small when it starts. Notice a few insects working the same spot on your eave, porch ceiling, or shed and it is worth a call before the nest grows.
Late Summer: Yellow Jackets Become the Problem: Yellow jackets tend to turn into a nuisance in late summer, around decks, patios, trash cans, and outdoor meals. They often nest in the ground or in wall voids, which is why a nest can go unseen until someone walks past it or mows near it.
The Signs of a Nest: Steady traffic of insects to and from one spot on the house, a papery structure under an overhang, or insects entering a hole in the ground or a gap in the siding. Any of those means a nest is nearby.
If Someone Is Stung: If anyone has been stung and is having trouble breathing or is swelling badly, call 911 first. For a nest near a household member who is allergic to stings, say so when you call 330-494-6199 so the office can flag it. We collect the details and the team reaches out to schedule, and urgent situations are flagged and prioritized.

"Paul quickly eliminated a yellow jacket hive. I appreciate having him come out to the house so soon after I called. This is the second insect nest he has destroyed for us. He does a professional job and is so very polite and knowledgeable."

FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

What Northeast Ohio homeowners ask about wasp and hornet nests.

State Termite removes wasp, hornet, and yellow jacket nests and treats for carpenter bees across Stark, Summit, Portage, Wayne, and Tuscarawas counties, including Canton, North Canton, Hartville, and Akron. Call 330-494-6199, describe what you see, and our team will reach out to schedule.
It is safer to leave it to a professional. Wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets defend their nests, and nests in wall voids or the ground are hard to reach. Knocking a nest down or spraying it can leave the insects agitated and still in the area, and it does nothing about the spot where they chose to build. We do not give do-it-yourself chemical instructions, and we would rather you call.
All three are stinging wasps that build nests, and the practical clue is where the nest is: under an eave or porch ceiling, inside a wall void, or in a hole in the ground. Yellow jackets are the ones most often found in the ground or in wall voids. If you cannot tell, call and describe it, or read our guide to what is nesting on your house.
Wasps begin building nests in spring, and yellow jackets tend to become a problem in late summer. If you spot a nest or steady activity around one spot on your home, call rather than waiting for the nest to grow.
After removing the nest, we apply preventive treatments where stinging insects like to nest, such as eaves, decks, porches, and wall voids. Bees and wasps are also covered by State Shield Essential, our year-round plan, and if pests come back between treatments, so do we — at no cost.
It depends on the type of insect, where the nest is and how hard it is to reach, how many nests there are, and whether prevention or follow-up visits are part of the plan. Because a nest in an open eave is a different job than one inside a wall, we do not quote a number without the details. Request a free estimate and we will explain what your situation involves.
